Most of the time a Threads download just works, but when it does not, the cause is usually one of a short list of issues. Run through this checklist from top to bottom and you will resolve the large majority of failures in under a minute.
1. The post is private or restricted
This is the single most common reason. If the account is private, or the post is deleted, age-restricted, or only visible to logged-in users, the media is not publicly reachable and no tool can save it without breaking those protections — which this one will never do. Quick test: open the link in a browser where you are signed out. If you cannot see it there, the tool cannot either.
2. The link was copied incorrectly
A truncated or mistyped link is the second most common culprit. Always use the post's own share menu and choose Copy link rather than copying from the address bar mid-load. The link should point to a specific post, not a profile or a search results page.
- Good: a link that contains /post/ and a string of characters.
- Risky: a shortened or redirected link pasted from a third-party app.
- Wrong: a profile link when you meant to grab a single post.
3. The post only exposes a preview
Occasionally Threads serves only a thumbnail image through its public metadata rather than the full video file. In that case the tool will show you the preview it can reach but cannot produce the original MP4. Trying again a little later sometimes helps once the post is fully processed.
4. The file saved but won't open
If the download completes but your player will not open it, the file may have been interrupted. Delete it and download again on a stable connection. On iPhone, check the Files app as well as Photos; on Android, look in your Downloads folder if it is not in Gallery yet.
5. Still stuck?
If you have ruled out all of the above, try the all-purpose Threads downloader, which lists every media type a post contains, or review the full how-to guide for device-specific steps. Persistent issues with one specific post usually mean its media simply is not public.
